Before Your Appointment — Sculptra
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before treatment to help minimize bruising and swelling.
- If medically appropriate, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen/NSAIDs, fish oil, vitamin E, and certain herbal supplements for 3–7 days before treatment. Do not stop any prescribed medication without first speaking with your healthcare provider.
- Avoid scheduling Sculptra if you have an active infection, cold sore, significant skin irritation, or inflammation in the treatment area.
- Avoid dental work for approximately 2 weeks before and after treatment when treating areas of the lower face.
- Inform your provider of all medications, supplements, allergies, previous injectable treatments, and any history of reactions to dermal fillers or injectable products.
- Arrive with clean skin and minimal or no makeup in the treatment area.

During Your Appointment — Sculptra
- Plan for your appointment to take approximately 60–75 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.
- You'll begin with a consultation to review your goals, medical history, facial anatomy, and personalized treatment plan.
- Before-and-after photographs may also be taken for treatment documentation.
- A topical or local anesthetic may be used when appropriate to improve comfort during treatment.
- Your provider will review the important Sculptra massage instructions with you before you leave. Following these instructions is an important part of your aftercare.
After Your Appointment — Sculptra
- Follow the "5-5-5" massage protocol: massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days, or according to your provider's specific instructions.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for approximately 24 hours after treatment.
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours after treatment to help minimize bruising and swelling.
- Avoid excessive heat, including saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and prolonged sun exposure, for approximately 24–48 hours.
- Avoid facials, massages, dental work, or other treatments that involve significant manipulation of the treated areas for approximately 2 weeks, unless otherwise directed by your provider.
- Keep your recommended follow-up appointment so your provider can evaluate your response and determine whether additional Sculptra sessions are appropriate.
